I started Crossfit doing PT in May 2013
2 month post my 3rd knee surgery i started CrossFit, as I was told that i shouldn’t play soccer anymore. So I found CrossFit an alternate way to strengthen my leg muscles, but also a sport that would challenge me both mentally and physically.
Before training CrossFit I was training, and playing soccer 3 – 4 times a week and followed a general gym program at anytime fitness.
What is your favourite aspect of training at Plus? In my short time at Plus i would have to say the support and encouragement of the members and fellow coaches.
If you could take one piece of exercise equipment with you to a deserted island, what would it be and why?
I would take a Kettle Bell, this is something we always take on holidays i figure if i get deserted i can always put a face on it and call it “Wilson”
What other sports have you played or play and at what level?
Soccer. In my youth i was fortunate enough to play for Australian schools and from 1996 – 2006 i played for New South Wales in both youth and senior teams. Most of my playing career was spent with Super league team Marconi Stallions, followed by Central coast Mariners and Gosford City.
What other physical activities, if any, do you do outside of the Box?
I usually just train at home or do some active recovery on my days off, this includes a beach walk or swimming, stretching at the pool.
My favourite quote
“Even the greatest was once a beginner, Don`t be afraid to take that first step”. Muhammad Ali. “Fear is a reaction, Courage is a decision, “ Winston S, Churchill
My favourite movie?
Eat Pray Love, The hundred Foot Journey, All Harry Potter
Is stranded on a deserted island, which album do you wish you had with you?
Adele (Any album) or The Beatles
My favourite cuisine
Italian pizza and pasta
I would say to stick with it, that you need to put in 4 – 5 days a week to truly appreciate its benefits not only physically but also mentally. The community and friendships you make are well worth the sweat, pain, early mornings and the gains.
My training goals
To hopefully stay injury free and continue to rehabilitate the shoulder, to improve both elements of my gymnastics and weightlifting, but most of all i look forward to a year building on my coaching and education hoping that will flow into my training and performance and to that of the Plus members
In general people that give themselves and their time to make a change in other people’s lives are who inspire me. If we are talking CrossFit.
My Favourite athlete is Samantha Briggs, she is humble and an absolute machine.
